Toll on German road network rises

The German government has to deal with major bottlenecks in the maintenance and construction of the road network and from 2019 (in accordance with European legislation) the external noise costs, in addition to the existing environmental tax, will be charged in the new tariffs.

For this reason, the German government has decided to significantly increase the kilometer charge for vehicles with a total weight of > 7.5 tonnes from 1 January 2019. Depending on the emission class, the toll rates increase by 27 percent for a five-axle Euro 5 engine and up to 60 percent for a five-axle Euro 6 engine.

In addition, the German government has decided to apply the kilometer charge on all federal roads (Bundesstrassen).
